As a composer, I am dedicated to creating innovative music for modern and contemporary dance. With over 15 years of experience in the field, I craft soundscapes that bring movement to life, blending rhythm, melody, and texture to enhance the emotional and physical expression of dance.
My Approach to Composing for Dance
My music is designed to be a partner to the choreographer and the dancers, providing a sonic canvas for storytelling and expression. I work closely with choreographers to understand their vision and create compositions that align with their artistic goals and vision. I believe in a collaborative approach, where music and dance influence and inspire each other, leading to performances that are both cohesive and captivating.
Styles and Techniques
I specialise in a wide range of musical styles, from electronic and ambient to classical and world music. This versatility allows me to adapt to the unique requirements of each dance piece, creating compositions that are both innovative and evocative. I often experiment with complex rhythms, dynamic changes, and unconventional instrumentation to push the boundaries of traditional dance music.
Projects and Collaborations
I have had the privilege of working with many esteemed choreographers and dance companies, including at Ballet Cymru and National Dance Company Wales. My compositions have been featured in performances at Sadler’s Wells and The Wales Millennium Centre, earning praise for their ability to enhance the emotional impact of both contemporary dance and ballet.
